![]() Albert was born on 25th of March,1879 at 666 Elizabeth St, Randwick, Sydney,South Australia. His parents were James Nicholas Fitton and Lucy Fitton. On the 1st of November 1902 at the age of 23 Albert married: Ruby Olive Fitton (nee Byrnes) at St Bides RC Church, Pyrmont,Sydney Their children were Alfred and Jack Fitton. Albert's military career is colourful. He served in the Boer War with the 3rd NSW Mounted Rifles then on the 1st of September 1914 he enlisted into the 1st Field Artillery Brigade (1st Brigade Ammunition Column) (1st AIF).On the 18th of October he left Sydney on the HMAT (A8) 'Argyllshire'. It is not certain whether Albert went to Gallipoli or came straight to England. Whilst in England he was married again to Evelina May Harden. Albert (or William as he sometimes called himself) saw action at Passchendaele, France.His only injury/illness during the bitter fighting was a case of Trench Fever. He returned to England and left Liverpool on the 19th of February 1919 on the SS 'ORCA', returning to Sydney,Australia on the 31st of March 1919. Sadly Ruby his 1st wife passed away, Albert remarried in 1935 to a Mary Ann Sorrensen at Chatswood NSW. Their children were Norma, Jorres(?) Albert, Mona, Gordon, Gwen, Faith, Ray and Dawn. Albert died on the 16th of September 1957 aged 78 and was interred at Northern Suburbs Crematorium, Sydney. ![]() |
